 FAQs

  • We start with a phone consultation to discuss your project. Based on that conversation, I may schedule a complimentary site visit for further review of the project scope of work. After the site visit, I prepare a proposal outlining my architectural services. Once you approve the proposal, I draft a contract, and after it's signed, we can begin the design process.

  • The timeline depends on several factors, including the project scope, consultant availability (including mine), your decision-making process, and city approval requirements. For projects along the California coast, approval from the California Coastal Commission may be required, which can extend the submittal timeline. In Laguna Beach, the project may also need to go through a Design Review hearing, adding additional time to the approval process.

  • I stay actively involved during construction to ensure the project aligns with the approved plans and meets the design intent. My role includes reviewing shop drawings and material submittals, assisting the contractor with unforeseen site conditions that may require design adjustments, and making periodic site visits to observe construction progress.

  • While I love Spanish Colonial architecture, I do not specialize in a single style. Many of my projects involve remodels, requiring me to work within the existing architectural design. I have experience with Craftsman, Mid-Century, Mediterranean, and Traditional styles.

  • Yes, I have worked on historic homes, including a project under the Mills Act. I understand the level of detail and craftsmanship required for historic preservation and the unique considerations involved in these projects.

  • Architectural services are billed hourly, with a not-to-exceed limit.
